Words Adrift is a place to write briefly, encounter words from elsewhere, and keep what stays with you. This policy explains how we handle information when you use the iOS app.

Your account and words
We use Sign in with Apple and Supabase to create and secure your account. Authentication may include an Apple identifier and an email address, including an Apple relay address. Your chosen signature accompanies released words. We do not intentionally publish your Apple name or email address.
Drafts saved to the service, released Fragments, interpretations, Keeps, circulation records and account settings are stored to provide the app. Drafts and Keeps remain private. Released words and their signature are shared with readers through the app. Interpretations retain provenance. Reading and circulation records support deliveries and the rules of each Journey; they are not public popularity scores.
You may optionally provide a country or region and an age range for product research. These details are private and are not added to your released words or Google Analytics events. You can edit or remove them in Me → Account → About you.
Optional usage research
Usage research is off by default. If you allow it, Google Analytics for Firebase receives selected actions, such as opening an Arrival, reviewing or completing a Release, starting an interpretation, completing Pass, opening translation, and revisiting a monthly reflection. It may also collect automatic app/session events, support purchase events, app/device information and an app installation identifier. General location can be derived from network information; the app does not request GPS for research.
We do not attach writing, draft text, translations, Customer Voice answers, names, account or Fragment identifiers, or optional profile details to Google Analytics events. We do not set a Google Analytics user ID to connect your account or website visits. Advertising personalization and Google Signals are disabled, and the app uses Analytics without advertising-ID capability. Granular location/device collection is disabled.
Your choice applies to your account on this device. You can change it in Me → Research & privacy. Turning it off stops collection and resets analytics data on the device. It does not delete reports already held by Google. User and event data retention is set to two months, without extension on new activity; aggregated reports may remain longer.
Customer Voice
Customer Voice is a separate, optional research experience. Invitations appear sparingly after meaningful experiences and can be skipped or disabled. Responses are not messages to Fragment writers. Responses are associated with your account so you can remove them, are not automatically accompanied by Fragment text or writer identity, and identifiable responses are removed within 90 days. Remove them through Me → Research & privacy.
Notifications, safety and translation
If you enable notifications, the app registers a device push token and notification settings to deliver quiet Arrival invitations using Apple's notification service and our Supabase backend. Notifications do not include Fragment text or writer names. You can change these settings in Me and in iPhone Settings.
Reports, optional report details and blocking records support safety. Reports are handled privately. Blocking does not notify the blocked writer. Translation is an optional reading aid presented through Apple's system translation feature; it does not overwrite the original or create an interpretation.
Supporting the app
Support is an optional one-time purchase processed by Apple. Apple handles payment information. The app uses StoreKit transaction information to acknowledge purchases, and passes an account token to Apple. We do not receive your payment-card details. With usage research enabled, Firebase may automatically collect purchase events such as the product and price.
Service providers and retention
Supabase provides authentication, backend storage and server functions. Apple provides sign-in, payments, notifications and system translation features. Google provides optional usage analytics. These providers process information needed for their respective services. Service/security logs may include technical network and request information. Access to private backend information is restricted.
Operational account data is retained while needed to provide the service. Deleting your account removes its active app data and stops your words circulating. Interpretations written by others can remain with unavailable-source attribution. Provider backups, security logs and Apple's transaction records can have separate retention; account deletion does not instantly erase every historical provider record. We do not claim that deletion removes Google's historical aggregate reports.
Your choices and requests
You can edit your name, remove optional details, change notification and research settings, remove Customer Voice responses, withdraw released writing, and delete your account from Me. Contact the privacy address above for questions or requests that cannot be handled in the app. We will describe material policy changes when the app's data use changes.
